This all started with your students, in your classrooms and hallways. Through conversations, focus groups, surveys and interviews, we asked your students to tell us how they learn and to give us their impression of textbooks in general. When and where they study. And… why? Some of their comments surprised us, while others didn’t: “(the book is) too long” and “too expensive.”Many of them said they didn’t even buy books, new OR used.
And then we turned to you for your input on the solutions that your students liked best: briefer chapters, flash cards, video clips and even online quizzing.
The result? A brief paperback that includes a suite of learning aids to accommodate the busy and diverse lifestyles of today’s learners, like flash cards and videos. In addition, we even created a few new tools to help you with your course.
Introducing HDEV, an innovative concept in teaching and learning solutions for your Human Development course designed to best reach today’s students. HDEV says it all using only five letters—and not only is it how students abbreviate Human Development in a text message, this is also the way your course is listed in the catalogue. Most importantly, HDEV is the new solution that you and your students built together.
FEATURES OF HDEV
HDEV offers many features to help you teach and students learn. The following are just a few we think you might be interested in.
Engaging Layout: The hallmark of HDEV is a visually engaging design implemented with pedagogic sensibilities. Photos and graphics help the text come alive for visual learners and enrich the presentation of the material. Headers are easy to follow, allowing students to quickly identify the main concepts in the chapter and how they relate to each other.
Chapter in Review. For each chapter, individual, detachable cards contain all the pertinent review information from the corresponding chapter. Terms, definitions, learning outcomes, review summaries, and important diagrams are all on one card for students to use as prompts as they study for the course.
Prep Cards for Instructors. Individual, detachable cards each contain a quick overview of the corresponding chapter from a teaching perspective: chapter outline, learning outcomes, multimedia highlights, key terms, lecture topics, student projects, classroom demonstration ideas, and more to help you plan and deliver your course efficiently.
